Forest fires are known for their destructive consequences in the departments of Gironde and Les Landes in Nouvelle Aquitaine region for instance. In effect, each year, they impact several hectares (ha) of wood and especially maritime pine. Therefore, this website aims at gathering the main forest fires of more than 100 ha having happened in those two areas. It will allow to understand their spatio-temporal evolution.
The study area is located in the south-west of France, in Nouvelle Aquitaine region, in the departments of Les Landes and Gironde. They both border the Atlantic ocean and have an oceanic climate. Each year, generally during April and July months, several forest fires occur even though precautions were taken by local municipalities and region to fight them.
